Better sounding Flash drive?

Well, maybe they won't really add "tube warmth" to your MP3s, but they sure look cool!

Music, Games & Multimedia - Captivate Conference Oct 6-8, Austin

This upcoming Captivate Conference has a great lineup of speakers and should be covering some very relevant topics for the future of digital media. Now that GDC isn't in town in this time slot, the Captivate Conf looks like a nice alternative, and actually covers more than just games for us audio types!

Don't miss the special panel Can you Hear What I Mean? in which Carolyn Fazio from Sonic Farms will be included as one of the panel speakers!

Another Try for a High Fidelity Disc?

Universal Music Group recently did a low key introduction of a new hi-res audio format called High Fidelity Pure audio - which essentially is a higher fidelity (96kHz/24 bit) audio Blu-Ray disc - you can read Bobby Owsinski's details about it here.

I'd have to agree with Bobby's assessment that this seems destined for failure - remember how far SACD and DVD-Audio went? Sadly, there is just not much demand for better sounding audio, and with higher resolution digital downloads coming around, the majority of those that do will prefer the convenience of downloads. As much as I'd like to hear it, I don't think I'll get the chance!

Universal Audio Apollo 16

The UA folks just keep making these Apollo units better! I saw a NAMM demo a few years ago and it looked (and sounded) like a great audio interface then. But now the Apollo 16 adds even more, including Thunderbolt 2 connectivity so maybe you can finally use that port on your MacBook Pro. I want one!

Shatner does Rocket Man

I'm not sure if this is brilliant or disturbing, but I found myself watching it all the way through!

Isolated EVH Tracks

There have been a lot of these isolated tracks from well known recordings popping up out there, which are really interesting to listen through - not just for the performances, but also for the raw sound and effects you may not have realized were on the tracks. Here's a great old Van Halen tune with Eddie's guitar isolated. Following the early EVH guitar formula, you can hear the guitar mostly dry on one channel, and a heavy slathering of just the wet reverb and delay on the other. Of course the truly amazing thing is Eddie's legendary rhythm playing.
